Abstract

Varietal response of four Indian chilli (Capsicum annuum L.) cultivars viz. KtPL-19, Pusa Sadabahar, ArCH-001 and Salem, to in vitro shoot tip culture was examined and protocol for in vitro cloning was standardized. Among different concentration combinations of BAP and IAA in MS medium, the maximum number of shoots was obtained on MS medium with 7.0 mg l- 1 of BAP and 0.25 mg l-1 of IAA after 4 weeks of culture. Interaction between cultivars and media were significant with reference to the number of shoots per explant. Shoot proliferation and elongation was maximum in MS medium with combination of 6.0 mg l-1 BAP + 1.0 mg l-1 KIN + 0.5 mg l-1 GA3. Supplementation with 40 gl-1 of sucrose resulted maximum shoot proliferation.
