Author Guidelines

General information

The ‘Vegetable Science’ is the official publication of the Indian Society of Vegetable Science (ISVS). Full paper must be either reports of original research, critical reviews or interpretive article. Submissions to "Vegetable Science" must not be previously published in or simultaneously submitted to any other scientific or technical journal. The editorial board does not undertake any responsibility to scrutinize regarding the approval of forward of papers by the Head of the Department or Institution or any other competent authority. The responsibility for statements made in the papers whether of fact or opinion, rests entirely with the authors thereof. Contributions should be as concise as possible. The maximum length of the review article (8000), full-length research papers (5000 Words) and short communications (2000 words) including references, illustrations and tables. Authors must be the Life member of Indian Society of Vegetable Science or have to pay printing charge of Rs 1000/- by each author after article is accepted for publication in the journal. 

Scope

The journal ‘Vegetable Science’ covers all aspects of vegetable research & development i.e. genetics, breeding, cytology, genomics, biotechnology, metabolism, physiology, ecology, quality, production technology, disease management, insect management, seed technology, post-harvest management, marketing, extension, etc. Articles reporting research in vegetable crops or reviews/interpretation of such research will be accepted for review as research papers/ review papers. Short articles concerned with experimental techniques, apparatus and observation of unique phenomena will be accepted for review as short communications.

 Submission procedures

All the manuscript should be submitted through on-line submission process of website of the journal (https://isvsvegsci.in/index.php/vegetable/about/submissions) or visit website for more details (https://isvsvegsci.in).

 Preparation of the Manuscript

Text formatting: Manuscripts should be submitted in MS Word format (Single file only). Use a normal, plain font (e.g. 11-point Times New Roman) for text, italics for scientific name and emphasis, automatic page numbering function to number the pages, tab commands for indents and not the space bar, table function to make tables and save your file in docx format (MS Word 2007 or higher). Please use internationally accepted signs, symbols or units (SI units). Abbreviations should be defined at first mention and used consistently thereafter. Arrange all Tables and Figures in last i.e. after reference.

Title: Keep the title brief, specific and informative and amendable to indexing. It should be typed in sentence case and latin names in italics. Also provide short title of the article (5-7 words).

Name and affiliations: The name of authors and the address of the institution where the work was carried out should be mentioned below the title. E-mail addresses of the corresponding author (*) should also be indicated.

Abstract: The abstract should clearly state the rationale, objectives, methods, and important conclusions of the study. It should not exceed 150-200 words. Also provide in Hindi (Kurtidev 10).

Keywords: About 4-6 words/phrases highlighting the contents of the paper and useful for abstracting purposes.

Introduction: It should be brief and limited to the statement of the problem and aim of the experiment.

Materials and Methods: It should include relevant details on the nature of material, experimental design, the techniques employed and the statistical method used. For well-known methods, citation of reference will suffice.

Results and Discussion:  It should be clear to readers in different disciplines. Units of measurement should be SI.

Conclusion: The article should be concluded in 50-100 words with conclusive findings.

Acknowledgments (optional): Should mention only guidance or assistance received in real terms, and financial grant provided by an agency. Acknowledgements for inspiration, typing etc., need not be mentioned.

Conflict of interest:  The authors must declare the conflict of interest, if any.

Figures: Submit figures in high-resolution (300 or more dpi), TIFFS/EPS/JPG files. Photographs and drawings for graphs and charts should be prepared with good contrast of dark and light. Give carefull attention to the width of lines and size and clarity of type and symbols. Figure caption should be brief but sufficiently detailed to tell its own story.

Tables: Prepare tables with the table feature of your word processer, do not use tab spaces or graphics boxes. Each datum needs to be contained in an individual cell. Number the tables consecutively. Table heads should be brief but complete and self-contained. Define all variables and spell out all abbreviations. Tables should be placed at the end of the main text documents.

Short Communications

The style and format as mentioned for full-length papers should be followed for Short Communications without abstract. Illustrative material should be kept at minimum, usually not more than one table or figure and only few references should be included (not more than 10).

Citations and References: Cite references in the text by name and year such as by Singh (2015), Singh & Seligman (1996), (Singh, 1991; Barakat et al., 1995; Singh & Chaudhary, 1995). The list of references should only include works that are cited in the text and that have been published or accepted for publication. Personal communication and unpublished work should only be mentioned in the text. Do not use foot notes or end notes as a substitute for a reference list. All the references cited in the text should be in reference and vice versa. Some examples of reference listing are given bellow:
