Abstract

Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) is one of the most
important cucurbitaceous salad vegetable crops grown
extensively in tropical and sub-tropical parts of India.
Its primary centre of origin is India (Zeven and Deweb
1982) and secondary centre of diversification is China
(De Candolle 1882). It is grown throughout the world
and is the fourth most important vegetable crop after
tomato, cabbage and onion (Tatlioglu 1993).
