Abstract

Carrot (Daucus carota subsp. sativus, 2n = 2x = 18) is an important salad vegetable crop and globally it has a commercial significance that belongs to the family Apiaceae, mostly aromatic flowering plants. The family Apiaceae contains 466 genera and 3820 species and is one of the largest families of seed plants, and the genus Daucus contains ca. 40 species (Spooner, 2019). Broadly, on the basis of the presence of root pigments, carrot is classified into two categories i.e. Carotenoid group (Red, Orange and Yellow carrot)- D. carota ssp. sativus var. sativus and anthocyanin/purple group (Purple, Black and Rainbow carrot)- D. carota ssp. sativus var.
